  The Surrey Slam

MIDWEEK FORMAT

The Surrey Slam Midweek this year is divided up into 4 separate, regionalised competitions, which will crown their own winner who will then go on to a finals day to see who will be crowned the County Champion.

The map below shows the split of the 4 regions.
Picture

With 18 teams in each region (17 in the NW), the format will be as follows, designed to maximise the number of matches played by each team:
  • Five initial groups in each region of either 3 or 4 teams. In the groups of 3 each team will play each other twice, whilst in the group of 4 each side plays each other once, and one side twice = 4 group stage matches for everyone;
  • All of the group winners and the 3 best-ranked runners-up will qualify for the quarter finals of the Regional Cup competition and proceed by knock-out from there;
  • The 4 lowest ranked teams (2 in the NE) will undertake a play-off to see who joins the other remaining teams in the Regional Plate competition and proceed by knock-out from there;
  • The 4 winners of both the Regional Cup and Plate competitions will proceed to the Finals Day on Sunday 6 September where they will play semi-finals and final on the same day to crown overall Surrey Slam Cup and Plate champions.

This format guarantees ALL teams 5 matches, 50% of teams 6 matches, 25% of teams 7 matches, 12.5% of teams 8 matches and 6% of teams 9 matches.

All regionalised matches will adhere to the following format:
  • matches start at 18:00;
  • 20 overs per innings, with the first 10 overs from the same end and the second 10 overs from the other end;
  • Each fixture is assigned a 14 day window for teams to arrange suitable dates between them;
  • pink balls will be used.
